Aussenalster

The Alster is a small river that for some reason builds quite a big lake right in the center of Hamburg. This lake is used for boating and divided into 2 parts: Binnen- and Aussenalster. The latter is much bigger and even used for Sailing.

This is the smaller part, as you can see it is closer to the center of the city. As the water isn't deep in either of them in cold winters the Alster freezes and Hamburg goes on Ice - there will be lots of kiosks on the ice selling mulled wine, food and other things and the frozen lake will be crowded with people. Unfortunately cold winters are rare.

This is the place I used to live in and my parents still do. It is right at Hamburg's NW border and as you will see from the pics quite a small green town.

Stadtpark

This is one of many big parks in Hamburg. There are lots of them and even more small ones - Hamburg is for a reason the greenest city in the world.
